What is the average body temperature of a person?

When you’re not feeling well, there is a chance you have a fever (a higher than average body temperature). However, to find out if you have a fever you must know the average body temperature of a healthy person. The average body temperature of healthy people is between 36.5 and 37.5 degrees. 

 

 

How can I measure my average body temperature?

If you want to find out what your average body temperature is, you can measure your body temperature at regular intervals (3 to 4 times a day) for a week. When you add all these measurements together, divide it by the number of times you’ve measured, you will have you’re average body temperature.

At which body temperature do you have a fever?

When you’re body temperature is above 37.5 degrees it is high. If an adult has a body temperature above 38 degrees, they have a fever. However, this is only applicable towards adults. For children and babies other temperatures are of importance. 

What’s the best way to measure body temperature?

There are only two good ways to measure your body temperature:

1. Anal (place about 1 cm of the thermometer in the anus) - 99% reliable
2. Oral (keep the thermometer under your tongue) - 90% reliable (add 0.3 degrees to the temperature)

All other ways to measure your body temperature are unreliable.
