What is the average height of a ceiling?
The average length of the human is still increasing. On average we are now 20 to 30 centimeters taller than 50 years ago. This affects our homes. So we have to take this into account when building homes. A ceiling has to be high enough to live in it for approximately 75 years. The average or normal height of a ceiling depends on two things. Is the height of a ceiling mandatory when building a new house?
There are no legal requirements for ceiling heights in UK homes, except for ceilings in staircases. For ceilings in staircases the minimum ceiling height is 2M. Besides this there are no legal requirements but there are standard ceiling heights, which are common in normal houses. Below you can find the minimum, normal and good ceiling heights used in the UK. It’s advised to keep them in mind when building your house.
Minimum ceiling height : 210 cm
Normal ceiling height: 240 cm
Good ceiling height: 260 cm
