What is the average temperature on Tenerife?

Tenerife is a Spanish island that is part of the Canary Islands. Tenerife is the largest island of the Canary Islands, followed by Gran Canaria and Lanzarote. Tenerife is located in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 400 km off the coast of Marocco. Tenerife is, just as its neighboring islands, a volcanic island. The capital of Tenerife is Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The climate on Tenerife is very different on the north and south. This is due to the volcano 'Pico el Teide'. The top of the Teide is at 3718 meters and thereby the highest point of Tenerife. Because the clouds hang against the mountains, the climate differs greatly between the north and the south of the island. In the south the average temperature is a lot higher and the weather is very dry. In the north the average temperature is lower and it rains more often. In the summer the average temperature during the day is around 25 degrees. In the winter the average temperature on Tenerife during the day is around 19 degrees.

What are the popular seaside resorts on Tenerife?

As explained above, the north has a lower average temperature and has more rainfall. Because of this, the north is a lot greener than the south of the island. Between October and March it can even have severe weather. Despite the less sunny climate, the northern part of Tenerife has a popular seaside resort: Puerto de la Cruz. Puerto de la Cruz is of origin a small fishing village.
The more popular holiday destinations on Tenerife are in the south. This is because it is warmer and sunnier here. Popular seaside resorts in the south are: Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje, El Medano, Costa del Silencio, Las Galletas, Playa de San Juan and Los Gigantes. In the south the temperature is between 20 and 30 degrees throughout the year. This makes the south of Tenerife a very attractive destination for summer holidays.
However, it can happen that the eastern air currents bring warm air from the Sahara to Tenerife. This can cause descending desert sand and temperatures of around 40 degrees. The chance that this will happen is fortunately not very big.
