How much meat do we eat on average per person?

In the Western world we eat a lot of meat in comparison to other parts of the world. The supermarkets are filled with meat products, it is cheap and readily available. Research shows that in the United Kingdom around 84.2 kilograms of meat per person is consumed. This is measured by the full carcasses needed for the meat. The actual amount of meat consumed per person is therefore substantial lower.

 

Do we eat more or less meat on average?

The number of people that does not eat meat has increased enormously over the last few years. Also the number of people that consciously eats less meat has increased. However, the average meat consumption in the UK is not noticeably reclining. This is partly due to the fact that meat is getting cheaper which makes people buy more and therefore consume more meat.

In which country do they eat the most meat?

The United Kingdom is number thirty on the list of average meat consumption in the world. Surprisingly Luxembourg is number one on the list. In this country they eat around 136 kilograms of meat per person per year. In second place is the United States, they eat around 125 kilograms per person per year. The least amount of meat is eaten in Bangladesh and India. They eat less than 4 kilograms per person per year.
